There is a low probability of sinking of an entire Indian state due to global warming. As per the recent environmental reports and studies, there is a possibility that several highly populated cities will fall into this category.
1. Mumbai
Low laying areas like Versova, will be washed away completely in case of rise of sea water level. Muddy areas and highly dense areas of coastal region are at high risk.
As per a report of TATA Energy Institute, economic impact on low line areas of Mumbai from one meter rise in sea water level will be approximately 200K crores.
2. Kochi
A vast land mass of second most populated city of Kerala, Kochi will be impacted largely due to rise in sea water level in next 100 years. Goa-based National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has predicted this forthcoming damage to cities like Kochi and similarly located cities. Mostly agricultural lands, urban areas and muddy coastal landmass will be impacted due to global warming in coming years.
3. Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep
Along with Maldives, Indian union territories of Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep are most likely to sink under sea water in coming decades. Environmental changes are so high in the Bay of Bengal that, there is a high chance of sinking of entire range of low lying islands of these union territories.
