Following are some basic facts about North-East which every Indian should know.
  • There are 8 states in North-East.

  • There are nearly 220 languages spoken in North East. It’s a mix of Tibetan, South-East Asian, and East India cultures.
  • Mughal emperors ruled the Indian subcontinent from the early 16th century to the early 18th century. North-East is the only part of India that Mughal Empire could not conquer.
  • The Ahom Dynasty, which ruled the North-East for 600 Years is the longest unbroken dynasty in Indian history.
  • The World’s largest River Island,The Majuli , and World’s smallest River Island , The Umananda , both are in North-East.

  • Seven Prominent National Parks Of India are in North- East. ( National Parks In North East India ). The famous one-horned rhino is exclusively found in the Northeastern part of India.
  • Shillong is considered as Rock Capital of India.
  • Mawsynram in Meghalaya holds the Guinness World Record for being wettest place on Earth.
  • SualKuchi in Assam is one of the World’s largest weaving villages where the entire population is engaged in weaving Silk fabrics.
  • Muga, the Golden Silk of Assam is not produced anywhere else in the world.
  • Mawlynnong in Meghalaya is the cleanest village in entire Asia.
  • 70% of the country’s orchids are found in the North-East.
  • Mizoram and Tripura are among the states with highest literacy rate in India. According to the 2011 census, literacy level is 91.58 percent in Mizoram and Tripura has achieved the first position in literacy with 94.65 percent, beating Kerala (93.91 percent).
  • There is NO-DOWRY Culture in the entire North-East.
  • Northeast India is considered as one of the most musically driven regions in the country. The Hornbill festival of Kohima, Nagaland, is India’s most well-known music and dance festival.
