What is one small thing everyone could do to have a massive impact on the world?
Always cut the plastic rings of your drinks before throwing them away
You see this things? Many people throw them away without caring to notice that they are still intact, causing the following things to happen:
It takes less than 10 seconds to cut the rings apart. Those 10 seconds will be well invested, I promise.
And if you have 5 more seconds to spare, make sure to cut the rings around your plastic bottles (e.g. milk, Gatorade, juice bottles).
This small thing can make a big difference in the world. Many people will say “why not just stop making plastic rings?” Well, it is not that easy. I promise you you won’t die in the process of cutting your plastic rings (unless you stab yourself with the scissors or knife).
One small cut from humanity, one animal’s life saved for the wild!
Edit: For those of you saying why not just throwing them in the recycling bin, let me tell you why: less than 3/4 of what you put in the recycling bin will actually be recycled. What makes you think that plastic rings will be one of them when the material that plastic rings are made out of do not meet the requirements to be recycled? Many of them will end up at landfills. We all know landfills are full of birds and other creatures looking for food around all that waste. If you want to throw the plastic rings in the recycling bin, great! But please cut them first. Nothing assures you it will end up where you want it to.
Additionally, rug rings like the one the turtle in the first picture has, can last more than 20 years. This can be prevented in five seconds. The companies won’t change the materials so why not change the way we dispose of them instead?
